THE MAIN PRINCIPLES OF PILATES:

Concentration - The key element to connecting your mind and body.

Control - Pilates is about controlled movement with every exercise.

Center - All exercises and motion start with your core muscles (the abdomen, lower back, hips and buttocks). These muscles support the spine internal organs and your posture. Pilates call this muscle group the “Powerhouse” region.

Precision - Every movement in Pilates has a purpose. Focus on doing the movements properly and with control. Eventually they will become second nature.

Breathing - Breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth. Completely inflate the lungs. Breathe in to prepare for the movement and breathe out to execute the movement. This will help you to control the movement and oxygenate your blood.

BENEFITS OF PILATES:

  • Helps to restore natural balance
  • Improves flexibility and posture
  • Boosts the immune system
  • Helps prevent bone deterioration
  • Stimulates the circulatory system which assists in oxygenating blood
  • Lengthens and strengthens muscles while you burn fat in the powerhouse region
  • Assists pre and post natal women in breathing, body concentration, and recovering body shape and tone during and after pregnancy

WHO IS PILATES FOR:

Everyone - Dancers, performers, and artists have been doing it for years. It is especially beneficial to people who suffer from stress and back pain or for people who are overweight, pregnant women and new moms, athletes, senior citizens and anyone who is looking to improve their strength, flexibility, balance, posture, tone and lengthen their muscles and decrease stress!
